In the makefiles utility/Makefile and utility/randnum/Makefile a $(LIBS) variable is being used. Look for the following entry in these Makefiles - $(TARGET): $(OBJ) $(HEADERS) $(LD) -r -o $(TARGET) $(OBJ) $(LIBS)

and remove the $(LIBS) at the end.

In 64 bit systems the correct c math library may be installed in /usr/lib64 directory. If the above-mentioned change does not solve the problem, try to locate libm.a and/or libm.so. They are likely to be in /usr/lib64 directory. Enter the full path to them in at the after the $(OBJ) entry in second line ( like this : $(TARGET): $(OBJ) $(HEADERS) $(LD) -r -o $(TARGET) $(OBJ) /usr/lib64/libm.a $(LIBS) ) in utility/randnum/Makefile and rerun make.

For 64 bit linux /lib64 and /usr/lib64 need to be added in library search path to resolve this issue. As of revision 598, this problem as been resolved in the supplied makefiles
